How discounts are calculated
Each discount is a multiplier applied in sequence. A 30% discount multiplies the price by 0.70; a further 20% multiplies that result by 0.80, giving 0.56 of the original — a 44% effective discount.
Reading a "extra % off" sign
"Extra 20% off sale prices" is a stacked discount. Enter the first markdown in the discount field and the second in the additional field to see what you actually pay.
Common questions
How do stacked discounts work?
A second discount applies to the already-reduced price, not the original. 30% off then 20% off is a 44% effective discount, not 50%.
How do I calculate a sale price?
Sale price = original price × (1 − discount ÷ 100). The saving is the original price minus the sale price.
Does this include tax?
No. Use the sales tax calculator to add a tax rate to the discounted price.
